This picture, taken on my then brand-new Mamiya twin-lens reflex C220 camera, records the arrival of the Sir Murray MacLehose at Queen's Pier on 19 November 1971 to assume office as Hong Kong's 25th Governor.
He is seen after a general salute from the British forces and a police honour guard being introduced to senior officials and dignitaries. Leading him, in the top hat, tails and dark glasses is Sir Hugh Norman-Walker who served as Hong Kong's Colonial Secretary for 1969 to 1973. For one month prior to Sir Murray's arrival he had acted as the Officer Administering the Colony following the departure of Sir David Trench in October.
Do you recognize any of the others ? (most of whom unfortunately have their backs to the camera). There are two more pictutes of this event at these links:- http://gwulo.com/atom/25516 & http://gwulo.com/atom/25515
