Nice Photo
Nice photo from the past showing the aircraft approaching Checkerboard Hill and making the 47 degree turn to line-up with the runway at Kai Tak.

A noisy place in which to live!!!
From December 1971 until November 1973 I lived in the bottom floor flat to the left of the entrance door behind where the girls are standing. I can assure you it was very noisy indeed; and worst of all when the RAF VC10 trooper took off from Kai Tak on the north eastern heading which passed directly over the Sunderland Rd MQs.
That apart; the up-side was that Sunderland Rd excelled for those of us with young families, not only by being a secure compound but with that rarest of Hong Kong luxury, a large grassed play area right outside our door. That certainly made it well worth putting up with the racket from the occasional VC10.
