Situated to the east of the former Runway 13 touchdown point, the building on the hill is believed to have been used by the Japanese as a Control Tower during the Japanese Occupation.

1950 seems to be a bit late for such a building to survive in postwar Hong kong?

Yes, that had grabbed my attention as well. I had looked at a map of San Po Kong from 1960 as seen here  It appears that the structure on the hill was still around in the1950s. 

Greetings.  My 1957 city bus  to Good Hope foot hill first crossed the runway, then travelled around a high ground.  On it, I saw a structure with exterior staircase very similar to this one.  Regards,  Peter
