Thanks for posting this interesting photo. I doubt the building is Mount Austin Barracks as it doesn't match other pics of the Barracks at https://gwulo.com/node/3689. But if not Mt Austin Barracks then where? Initially I thought perhaps the sliver of land seen across the water in the left background was the north of Lamma Island - which would mean the photo was taken somewhere on the west coast of Hong Kong Island, but I'm far from sure. It's an impressive building whatever it is, so I'm confident the gwulo community will have it identified sharpish.

I think this is St. John Hospital, Cheung Chau. An extra floor looks like to have been added in later. See here

Further comments are made here If this photo is indeed St John's, the photo would have been taken between late 1934 and 1938.

I've updated the title from the original "Mount Austin Barricks Hong Kong early 1930s.JPG", and added 1935 as a guess for the date.

This is the first time I've seen the old hospital with just the two storeys, so thank you for uploading it. Please can you tell us anything about the original owner, and whether they had any connection with Cheung Chau and this hospital?

This is Cheung Chau. The hospital is between Tung Wan and Nam She Tong Farmers' Field. This may be the original and the improved version has one more floor. During the 1950s, I was there for viccination shot every years up to primary 2.
