Whenever we waited for the gharry (usualy a 3 ton Bedford lorry) to take us back to camp we waited for it beside the hedge on the extreme right. The gharries kept to a timetable ferrying airmen between Little Sai Wan and the outpost at Battys on the Peak. If we had booked seats (benches along the sides with a few equally uncomfortable ones down the centre) there was usually room for us. Otherwise it was a tram ride to Shaukiwan and then either a long walk from there or a hair-raising trip in a pirate taxi. (Andrew )
