Airmen's Mess menu.

Each of the three Christmas Day meals was a real treat - usual meals on the camp were opften not very good and, as I have probably noted elsewhere, the Navy, Army and Air Force Institute (N.A.A.F.I) in the rooms above the Mess did a brisk trade in more appetising meals. On this special day the cooks did well - the normal small daily food allowance from which they had to feed us must hve been greatly extended.  The variety of dishes was quite remarkable and free beer, cigarettes, fruit and nuts were there to be enjoyed.  Towards the end of the meal surplus food was distributed to children who arrived each year from the Chaiwan squatters' camp.  See the following photographs of them reaching up to collect whatever they could.
