Found this picture of the Kowloon Whampoa Docks with the following writing on the back.

"Kowloon Whampoa Docks. Ship Capt. Hofwood of "Hermes" left in for England taken from the air. Kai Tak about four miles away"

I think that this photo has been printed in reverse. I took a scan of the photo and flipped it horizontally. Some of the buildings and landscape on the flipped image now match up with other later comparable photos. https://gwulo.com/atom/40797

The three funnelled liner in the foreground could be either the EMPRESS OF ASIA or its sister ship EMPRESS OF RUSSIA of the Canadian Pacific Line. The liner in the dry dock is very similar and may be the other sister ship.

The " Hermes" mentioned in the caption could be the RN pre-WW2 aircraft carrier commissioned in 1924 which was regularly deployed to the China Station in the 20s and 30s.

Thanks for posting

Thanks dega. So that would be Captain Geoffrey Hopwood of Hermes from 2nd December 1927 to February 1929

I've flipped the photo horizontally

Thank you so much Dega. Great information. Best regards,  Daniel
