The one from 1945 was taken from a flying height of 20.000 feet, therefore the resolution is pretty poor. The one from 1949 was taken at 8.000 feet, it's much clearer.

On the one from 1949, the police station can be seen (or actually guessed) in the right circle, the left one shows the Kwun Yum Temple. On the 1949 photo, it looks as if the station was demolished and "replaced" by squatter huts. The Whampoa Dockyards were heavily bombarded both by the Japanese and the Allied Forces during WW2. So possibly the station was damaged at the end of the war and had to be removed.
