Hung Hom Police Station 1945_49

Date picture taken (to nearest decade for older photos):

Aerial view of the area where the first Hung Hom Police Station should be.

The one from 1945 was taken from a flying height of 20.000 feet, therefore the resolution is pretty poor. The one from 1949 was taken at 8.000 feet, it's much clearer.

Cropped from Whampoa Dock 1920

As indicated from the 1920 and 1935 maps, the police station was situated on a ridge of Kun Yam Hill and above Taku Street. I think that the police station (inside the red circle) can be seen on this 1920s photo of Whampoa Dockyards.

This is a merger of the maps 180 -SW-13 and 179-SE-16.They are from 1690, updated 1969.

On this map, two overhead ropeways are shown. Not clear if they were both active for some time, or only shown on this map.

Second generation Hung Hom Police Station was located at the junction Chatham Road North and Hok Yuen Street. It can be located on the 1956 Kowloon map on Gwulo.

Simtang pointed out that works for the police station building commenced in 1949, and the station was opened in 1950. The station was demolished when Chatham Road was widened; it is still there on an aerial photo from December 1977, and gone on one from September 1979.
