Battle of HK, Youtube Videos

I've come across a couple of youtube videos that are quite good.

I don't know how to put the video onto this site but the addresses are:

Hour of Darkness : part 1/6 the other 5 parts you can get after watching the first.

Not a bad documentary with lots of archive footage. about 1hr

Short clips of the Battle of HK, 7-8mins

Prehaps someone with superior IT knowledge than myself could drag these clips onto Batgung. Craig

Wong Nai Chung Gap tea house
What is the significance of this building? It showed up in the beginning of the Youtube video recommended by Craig. When I walked by last fall, there were strewn chairs and tables (I can't tell from which era but definitely more recent than the 40's) and the place looked hastily abandoned. Does anyone know more about it?

Hi Sophia, I think that's Matheson's Cottage. It's good to see you're getting the hang of creating places & photos.

Interesting!  I would never have thought of it...  I might have messed up your categories as I uploaded this pic - I put it under "Battle of HK" instead of "Battle FOR HK". Still trying...

I'm not sure what they mean - or how old they are either. Does anyone else know?

The flat area behind PB 1 and PB 2 is where the surrender of the PBs took place late on the day on 19th Dec. 1941. The 3ft wall is marked on 1941 sketch maps showing the PBs the wiring, the alternative positions and that section of wall. I had heard also that it was the remains of an original Jardines bungalow - but I dont know of that is correct. Without the tree cover - the site would command good views of the harbour. A lot of the stones from the ramparts of PB 1 have been used (post war) to make retaining walls for flowerbeds when the flat area was used as a sort of sitting out area. Phil Cracknell
