Is the woman with a baby on her back that turned to rock over looking Tolo Harbour still standing ? Photo taken around 1947. Are wild monkies still in the area?

Hello Gordon

Can I please make a suggestion -

- That all these photos that are appearing lately have as the Subject Heading: What, Where, When, Who (or some other interesting description) - rather than a long row of boring meaningless numbers and letters.

Then it would be far more interesting, and encouraging, for viewers to click onto the item to have a look.  And easier to find again if the Subject headings were varied.

The reference can always be included elsewhere.

Just a thought, thanks, kind regards,

Suziepie

yes, still standing, although now overlooking Shatin New Town.

Actually, Tolo Harbour is beyond the gap in the distance, strictly speaking this thing was above Shatin Sea.

Yes, she's still there, and still waiting. Here are some more photos of the area at different times:

There are still monkeys around here too, with lots of them around the Kowloon Reservoirs.

Sound advice Suziepie, thanks. I am still a novice even with picture down loading but hope to improve with time. Philk, you are so right about Shatin. David, pleased to learn that monkey business is still thriving today in the area. Who was Mong Fu Shek waiting for and was the baby given a name?

Hi Gordon,

I've posted a copy of the legend from the government website at: http://gwulo.com/comment/32101#comment-32101

No names given though, or dates for when the legend first appeared.

Regards, David

David, many thanks for covering everything and including the monkeys.

Best wishes to everyone, Gordon
