'The (Plymouth) Brethren' in Pre-war Hong Kong

I've come across a reference to 'nightly prayer meetings run by the Plymouth Brethren at the Duddell Street Gospel Hall' in 1941 (Ted Ferguson, Desperate Siege, 30).

Does anyone know anything about 'the Brethren' in pre-war Hong Kong? Or about the Gospel Hall? For example: where exactly was it? Was it used exclusively by the Brethren or was it available to any Evangelical Christian organisation?

Hi Brian,

Not something that rings any bells, and a few related searches didn't turn up anything relevant in the newspapers.

The only time I've heard of the Plymouth Brethren is in Elsie Tu's auto-biography. She was a member of that group when she arrived in Hong Kong, but she left them in the early 1950s, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elsie_Tu and Google Books.

Duddell street Gospel Hall was moved to Jordon in 1970s, and now is called Austin Avenue Gospel Hall. We still keep fellowship and spread the Gospel, and we would welcome different people come to hear Gospel and study the word of God.
