The Government Civil Hospital, situated to the West, off the Queen's Road about a mile from the Clock Tower, was first organized in the year 1848. It includes, after many additions, very extensive premises, with separate departments for different ailments, also a handsome residence standing in its own grounds for the Medical Officer in charge and a very spacious building for the use of the European nursing staff.
