The Database of Chinese Maritime Customs Staff shows he joined the CMC in January 1864 and resigned in July 1866.

Can you tell us any more about him?

May be American, not British.  

May be father of Lai Yuk Hing 1870?-1945, 2nd wife of Sir Ho Kai.

May have had another child named William Knight who lived in HK.
