Eileen was born in Hong Kong (nee Donald) in December 4, 1911. Her family was of Scottish heritage. She married Charles Medley (originally from Victoria, BC, Canada and a member of the Hong Kong Marine Police) in Hong Kong on September 7, 1939. Prior to the invasion, Eileen was employed with The Green Island Cement Company. She and Charles were interned in the Stanley Camp in 1942. They were repatriated in October 1943 and returned to Canada via the Teia Maru and the Gripsholm. They returned to Hong Kong in 1947.
