I think that these two ships were ferries sailing between Hong Kong and Guangzhou.

The ships in the picture are two out of three built in Japan for Shun Tak Shipping Company’s HK to Macau service in the early 1970s – NAM SHAN, TAI SHAN and LO SHAN. They were replaced by two high speed vessels built by Vosper Thornycroft  UK - CHEUNG KONG (1984) & JU KONG (1985). Two unique vessels which also ended up in the Philippines in 1997.

All three vessels built by Nigata Eng. Co. Ltd. of Japan.

NAM SHAN:  built 1972 - sold 1982 to A.P. Madrigal Steamship Co. Inc. Philippines renamed MADRIGAL SURIGAO - scrapped  04/93.

TAI SHAN:  built 1972  - sold to A.P. Madrigal Steamship Co. Inc. Philippines 1982 renamed  MADRIGAL TACLOBAN  then MADRIGAL ROMBLON – scrapped 1994

LO SHAN:  built 1973  - scrapped 1996
