This was/is the location of what was Western Police Station to which were attached Rank and File married quarters together with married quarters for inspectorate officers. I lived in the single men's quarerts in the station in the early 1960s;they were pretty dismal with only a black and white Rediffusion tv for entertainme,t. The vol;ume had to be turned up to drown out the sound of the trams. Closing the windows to stop the smells worked but mde the place hotter. Onr past time was breeding tropical fish in a fish tank in your room; quite a competition
