Japanese tunnel below Pinewood Battery [????- ]
Primary tabs
Nothing very exciting to see, but interesting because it's the first we've seen on the Western side of the island. I wonder if the Japanese built more tunnels where they had experienced the worst fighting, or whether there are more on the western side of the island that just haven't been seen yet.
I remembered this from over 10 years ago. I didn't know what it was then, but remember a tunnel cut straight back into the hill. I didn't go in, but I didn't see any turnings or branches from the entrance, so I think it was one of the simple hiding-place tunnels.
When I went back to look for it again recently, I see it has been blocked up.
It's along a pretty path. If you walk up from Pokfield Road bus terminus towards Pinewood Battery, the path eventually turns into a paved road. On one of the bends this path leads off to the right, signposted to a 'planting site'. At one point you'll walk up a couple of steps, and see the path makes a sharp right turn a little way ahead. The tunnel is just past the steps, on your left side.

Correct Location
Does anybody have a HK Gov map screenshot or coordinates to locate this one?
No better coordinates,
No better coordinates, unfortunately, but the path is a clear one, shown slightly to the left of the marker on the Thunderforest map: https://gwulo.com/node/2898?a=1#16/22.2789/114.1343/Map_by_Thunderforest...
If you walk south along that path, then hopefully the directions given above will make it clear where to look:
At one point you'll walk up a couple of steps, and see the path makes a sharp right turn a little way ahead. The tunnel is just past the steps, on your left side.
From memory the tunnel was clearly visible from the path, and quite close to it, so no need to head off into the undergrowth.
Hi David,
Hi David,
According to your explanation there seems to be 2 different ones on that path then.
Pls check my Photos below:

This one is right before the steps on your left, just about 10m uphill from the path.
Will walk by over CNY again and try to find yours after the steps.
