St. Joan of Arc School (1st generation) [????-1959]

Current condition:
Demolished / No longer exists
Date Place demolished:
1959-12-31

Guessing demolition date is end of 1959, based on notes from aetse:

The [second St Joan of Arc school building was] completed in around 1960. I entered St Joan of Arc Kindergarten in around 1957-58 period, in an older building on the same site. That building used to be Wah Yan College, and before that, St. Joseph's College.

Lawrence Tsui:

I was at SJA Primary 1956-58.  We studied at the 3-storey classroom block with a covered playground at the bottom level with an open playground in front with toilets below the open playground.  An open staircase led from Robinson Road to the open playground on the left, and then to a lower entrance.  Turning right was the school hall / music room was at the lower level of a more massive taller building next door.  The office / teachers common room of the SJC was at the ground floor of this taller building.  The upper floors of the tall building were referred to as 'St. Joseph's Hostel' which is not part of SJA.

I believe Rimondi was built on a slope and was not on a site of the St. Joseph cluster.

This building was the "Southern Block" of SJC at Robinson Road.

Exact date of completion uknown. It was probably built after the 1918 earthquake damaged SJC's building .
