John Hargreaves was born January 7, 1898 in Barrow, Lancaster and died February 5, 1965 in Cartmel, Lancaster.  He was the brother-in-law of A.H. Elston, who was also in Stanley.  Their father-in-law Henry Garrod served in the Hong Kong Police from 1898 to 1924.

Probably refers to John Hargreaves  born 7.1.1898, elisted in the Hong Kong Police on 1.8.1924  as a Constable,on 1.4.1930 he was appointed Clerical Officer Grade 3 and later again to Senior Clerical and Accounting Staff.In 1941 he was the Accountant, Police Department and is mentioned in the Police War Diary.
