Re: Queen's recreation ground
Hi there,
This location was generally being called 陸軍球場 (Army's Playground) by we locals before its rebuilt. I remember my old man told me owing to its tie with British Military the site and its neighbourhood had been the target of Japanese artilery as well as airforce boomers.
That was his own first hand experience as Grandpa and family had been trying to take shelter in a shophouse in Tai Hang for a time. They had to turn tail when booming become severe. Eventually they moved to St Francis' Square in Wanchai for a while, before moving somewhere else.
Best Regards,
T
