1. 1874. Tender for construction of Cape Collinson Lighthouse and keepers dwelling was issued on 16-5-1874.

2. 1875 & 1876. The list of "Crown Property (Buildings) Hong Kong" for 1875 does not mention Cape Collinson Lighthouse, but Item 46 in the same document for 1876 refers to Cape Collinson Lighthouse and describes it as a light tower and light keepers quarters occupied by two Chinese since January 1876.

3. 1876 & 1877. The HK Government Gazette of 12th Feb. 1876 states, "Notice is hereby given that a harbour light will be exhibited on Cape Collinson on and after March 1st next", i.e.1877.

4. 1895. The Report of Director of Public Works for 1895, Para.25, mentions the addition of "quarters for a European" being under construction at the lighthouse.

5. 1966. The Hong Kong Memory website says that the lighthouse was extensively renovated in 1966 with the old structure integrated into the new and an upper floor added.

From the above, initial construction can be set as 1876.

The light would have been modernized in 1963/1964. The lantern was moved to Tang Lung Chau and the Cape Collinson Light received alterations to its structure and a new electric light. The keeper was withdrawn the same year and the station was briefly used by the Royal Observatory as a weather station.
