The first theatre to operate at the site was Nanyang Theatre (南洋戲院).   There is place-page for Nanyang Theatre [1966-1990]  https://gwulo.com/nanyang-theatre#18/22.27731/114.18025/Map_by_ESRI-Mark..., thus this page discusses its successor South Pacific Theatre.

Word for word, 南洋 is translated to south ocean.  However, Hong Kongers in the 1950s (when I was living in HK) used the term when they talked about the place they migrated to work and set up business -Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.  Nanyang is its phonetic equivalent.  The owner of the original theatre might not have the Pacific Ocean in mind when he/she named it.

South Pacific Theatre operated during the period April 16, 1992 - April 12, 1999.
