MCL 4D Extreme Screen was located on the 6th floor of Sky Plaza which is connected with Terminal 2. It started operating on March 30, 2007, and was the third in Hong Kong belonging to the IMAX family. The discussion of 4D film in the Wikipedia source is summarized here: 4D film is a combination of 3D film and physical effects in synchronization with the film. Effects may include rain, wind, strobe lights and vibration. Seats in 4D venues may vibrate or move a few centimetres during the presentation. Other common chair effects include air jets, water sprays, and leg and back ticklers. Hall effects may include smoke, rain, lightning, air bubbles and smell. The audience wear special glasses to watch 4D special effects movies.
The studio of this airport cinema features a giant screen 64 feet high and 44 feet wide. The placement of the seats takes the ladder design to eliminate view blockage.
MCL 4D Extreme closed on January 31, 2012. Its successor is the 350-seat UA IMAX @Airport which shows IMAX 2D and IMAX 3D films, and it continues to operate today.
