Tomé WALKER [c.1878-1944]
Primary tabs
H.W. and Tomé Walker are listed in the 1916 Rate Book for the newly created Broadwood Road as being among the first residents there. They lived at no. 15 which was called "Brinkelly" and were neighbours to both my grandfather, C.E. Warren, until he died in 1923 and then my uncle and his wife, Leslie and Cicely Warren, who moved into no. 19. I've previously queried whether these Walkers were in any way related to Vernon Walker of HK Tramways, who, according to the Gwulo contributor, Douglas, came to Hong Kong in 1921. Vernon and his family lived at 4 Broadwood Road. Vernon was interned in Stanley, but I don't know whether Tomé was interned or what her nationality was. She died aged 66 in 1944. She and her husband, Captain Henry Walter Walker, who predeceased her in 1940, are buried in the same grave in the Protestant Cemetery.
I'd like to find out more about the first families who lived in Broadwood Road, some of whom may appear in photos taken at The Towers, 20 Broadwood Road in the period 1916-1923.
