Memories of:

  • William TODD [1916-????], policeman interned in Stanley, awarded Colonial Police Medal.
  • Leonard STARBUCK [1911-1953], worked for the Observatory, and probably one of the first prisoners captured by the Japanese in 1941
  • Albert JILLOTT [1901-????], prison officer
  • Charles Henry HART [1808-1867], one of the bidders in the first land auction in 1841

  • Frederick Stanley Lowing, who died while a prisoner of the Japanese

Gwulo book news

Here's the map from the new Volume 2, to give an idea of the photos it uses, and the areas it covers.

Map from Gwulo book, Volume 2

The map is definitely the trickiest part of the book's layout to do. I could feel myself putting off working on it, but eventually it was the last piece of the book that wasn't ready, so there was no escape. I spent several days coming up with what I thought was a good layout, but Lilly the designer took one look at it and said "too complicated!". This is what we've ended up with after she reworked it.

The last of the remaining edits to the layout were signed off on Wednesday night, and the files have been sent to the printer. I'm crossing my fingers that they can deliver the books to me in early December, but they can't confirm a date yet.

Once I do have a firm delivery date, I'll announce a pre-publication special offer, like we had for Volume 1. Stay tuned!

Andrew is uploading the photos that used to be hosted on the 367 Association's website. That website has recently gone offline, so thanks to Andrew and the association's members for giving the photos a new lease of life here on Gwulo. Here are some samples.
