William Charles Blake first appears on a register of apprentices' indentures (10/5/1880) as a 16 year old. Later received a certificate of competency, 1st mate 4/8/1908 on a Liverpool foreign going steamship (cert no. 004.509). His death on 17 June 1908 was in the colonial hospital, Sekondi, Western Ghana, Ghana due to apparent shipboard injuries (merchant ship Sapele). His injuries included a fractured pelvis and laceration of bladder. He was 2nd mate.
