Hong Kong Under Military Government
Primary tabs
I just want to post this link of a 244 page unclassified document for reference I found by acccident before I lose it by casually surfing onto another web page! This would be interesting for students of the history of the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong. Lots of hard to find information during this murky period of Hong Kong's history.
"This is a translation of an official Japanese publication prepared by the Far Eastern Economics Bureau of Hong Kong under the supervision of the Information Department of the Japanese Government, General of the Hong Kong Occupied Territory. It presents a vritually encyclopaedic survey of Hong Kong, stressing its value to the Empire, and enlarges upon the benefits to the populace conferred by the Japanese Government, in contrast to the "exploitation" under the British rule. The future role of Hong Kong as a key point of a Japanese-dominated East Asia is a central theme; and the suggestion that Japanese rule will bring increasing social benefits to the masses is constantly reiterated. Much of the basic material has been compiled from British sources; and detailed statements of measures undertaken by the Japanese have been worked into the text so as to present an integrated whole. Considerable light is thrown directly and inferentially on long-range Japanese plans for Hong Kong as a center of Japanese influence."
