Known as Olof Olson in Hong Kong, he followed his elder brother, John Olson to the colony and became manager of the National Hotel in around 1879, taking over that responsibility when John wanted to retire. The Olson family has so far not discovered when Olof arrived in Hong Kong, except that it was later than his younger brother, Anders. He apparently had no issue and nothing is known about his relationships. Nor is the cause of his death known. The first record of Olof's name in Hong Kong is possibly in the 2nd October 1877 number of Daily Press as joint proprietor of the National Tavern with his brother. Olof's death in the summer of 1880, three months after the birth of John Olson's daughter, Hannah, (my grandmother) and possible death of her mother, Yau Kum, (my great-grandmother) would have been a double crisis and bereavement for John. Having held the licence of the National for 14 years, he now sells it to Wilhelm Wilson, although he continues to be named as "proprietor" until 1884.
