Happy Valley 1950s

Could these ghouses be below Peak Road, just as you go past Wanchai Gap? I'm guessing they're on some sort of tour, taking pictures as they go.

There's Wah Yan College in the distance. The building looks complete, but the ground still looks like a building site.

Also anyone know what the robust-looking square building is on the far left in the middle? next to the remnants of Morrison Hill

I think the building was the Hong Kong Technical College (formerly Government Trade School) situated on Wood Road.

Hi there,

There are actually more places visible:

-  Muslim Cemetary

-  Morrison Hill Technical College;

-  The back of the Sikh Temple

-  The pre-highrise military quarters at Wong Nei Chung Road before Broadwood Road junction;

-  Ruttungee Sanitorium

-  Wanchai Waterworks Depot, next to the Ruttunjee Sanitorium towards the east;

-  The then HQ of the Volunteers;

-  The Kai Fong Association of Happy Valley/Ngor Keng area, right before the HQ of the Volunteers;

-  The Craigengower Cricket Club, just north of HKFC

-  The construction site of the Pui Kiu Secondary School up at Broadwood Road.  That might have been the site of the Tower.

-  Also in this photo, Wah Yan College was still under construction.  The Playground and the service rold were still full of sand and mud.  That means the photo was taken way before 27th September 1955, the day the school formerly opened.

-  The original Sports Drive, between the HKFC and the Race Course;

-  St. Margaret's Church at Broadwood Road

-  The military quarters atop Leighton Hill

-  South China Sports Association Stadium;

-  St. Paul's Hospital

-  Army's playground, Causeway Road;

-  Queen's College at the far upper left;

-  Victoria Park far upper left;

-  The tall white block before Victoria Park might have been the Dairy Farm depot/Ice House at Paterson Street;

-  Tram Depot at Russel's

-  Hoover Cinema, also at the far upper left

My 2 cents,

T
