Think the building on the right is Alexandra House (2nd gen.), then GPO and P&O Building (5th gen.)

Film still from the film Hong Kong Central District 1973.

Shows the General Post Office and houses west of it. The GPO Mail distribution bridge and tower is visible near the bottom. It looks longer than the original that terminated at the water front (which had been reclaimed in 1973 already).

My grandfather, Mohamed Ahsan, came to Hong Kong in approx 1921, aged 14. He studied at Ellis Kadoorie School for 2 years, and then went onto Queen’s College. Once he graduated he obtained a job as a Clerk at the General Post Office. His brother Mohamed Yousif joined him at the GPO shortly after.

What did the old Hong Kong GPO interior look like?

Hello everyone!

My name is Brandon, and I love old Hong Kong buildings. One of my favourites is the old GPO which was demolished in the 70s. Does anyone recall what the interior looked like? I could not find any photographs. A visual guide would be very helpful, explaining would also be fine.

Thanks!

-Brandon
