On 24 March 1936 the first flight carrying airmail from London arrived in Hong Kong via Penang.  This map from ' The Far Eastern Review' shows the new Far Eastern Air Routes used by Britain's 'The Imperial Airways'.

I’ve just come across this cutting while clearing out old files

It brought back many memories of struggling through the hot and humid airport terminal with a young family in tow.

And being arbitrarily “bumped off” over-booked China flights when it was imperative to arrive that day or the next for business meetings. China Southern still owes me refunds for a number of “denied boarding” events from over 25 years ago.

On wet days trying to get a taxi from the airport. Forget it!
