I recall that while the Concorde was in Manila its sales team were persuaded to fly the President’s wife Imelda Marcos up to Hong Kong. This was a day earlier than Concorde’s scheduled visit. She duly arrived at short notice at Kai Tak airport which must have given the HK government’s protocol staff near heart-attacks.

Its impending visit to Hong Kong must have been well publicised as my employer arranged an open house party for colleagues on the flat roof of an industrial building overlooking the runway near Kai Tak to see Concorde arrive. It was a hot and hazy Saturday afternoon and the event created a lot of interest and excitement.
