James Steven visited Hong Kong in 1908. He was on a world trip part pleasure, part business for his father's firm, Steven & Struthers, a Glasgow brassfounders, that sold brass and bronze ships' chandlery, propellers, pumps, and lighthouse lanterns world-wide. He brught back postcards from his trip and this was one of them.

I think the stone-built chair-shelter that replaced the matshed shelter is shown here, so the date should be mid 1901 or a bit later.

Peak Tram Bridges

In the Journal from 1888 it is reported that there are eleven bridges on the Peak Tram. Two of them are over roads, and the rest over nullahs and gaps. In the beginning, two road bridges over the tram were built (Bowen Road, a bit later Macdonnell Road). In 1907, the May Road bridge was built, and in 1968, the Cotton Tree Drive bridge was added.

So, let’s start at the lower terminus.
