Sitting alone in the vegetation and well visible from the road. I couldnt find any old buildings at the location online. Maybe somebody can shed some light?

Only just noticed one of the IFC towers being built on the left of this photo. I don't even remember seeing either IFC tower until 2007!

I think the stone-built chair-shelter that replaced the matshed shelter is shown here, so the date should be mid 1901 or a bit later.

This is my most recent restoration of two combined John Thomson images. Original. Original high resolution scans are fromt he Wellcome Trust. 

Color references are from contemporary or near-contemporary oil paintings. 

Matted prints will be on sale at the Hong Kong Maritime Museum giftshop from Mid March, 2019. Proceeds to the Museum.

Most south-easterly of the hills ontop of Mount Austin [????- ]

Mount Austin (i.e. the massif within the loop of Lugard and Harlech roads) has a number, I would say four, of slightly lower peaks in the immediate vicinity of its summit. None of these subsiduary peaks have distinguishing names as far as I am aware, which can lead to confusion when attempting to identify or describe specific locations ontop of "The Peak".

This "place" marker is for the most south-easterly of these subsiduary peaks.
