Jurors List 1931-Air Pilot-Arthur Vere Harvey bio

Date picture taken (to nearest decade for older photos):
1931

Arthur Vere Harvey was an early member of the Far East Aviation Co based at Kai Tak and of the Far East Flying Training School.

His main role involved selling British aircraft in South China

After a career in the war-time RAF, post-war he became a Member of Parliament in the UK.

He was not an early 'Air Pilot' in Hong Kong.

Many had preceeded him by the 1930s. but they were probably not conscientious enough to be listed on the Juror's Roll Call  .

Enquiry - Evolution of Kowloon City (Lung Shing)

Kowloon City (especially the currently Lung Shing constituence) has quite a interesting history. I learnt that the area was previously scattered with several villages and later there is a development of the Kowloon Street (a local market); and then a pier that links to it. The Kai Dak reclamation also took several stages to be completed.

RAF Officers quarters & Guardroom-1936

Date picture taken (to nearest decade for older photos):
1937

This image revealls the rarely seen original building that stood in front of the RAF Officer's Mess and quarters.

It looks like the buildings usually seen in 1920s images of Kowloon around Nathan Road and residential side streets.

It appears to have been in the hands of a 'Dutchman' according to this 1937 typhoon account of an RAF officer trying to return to his quarters

Dudman W.F.-1945

Date picture taken (to nearest decade for older photos):
1945

The above clipping from The Aeroplane magazine published in the UK on 30 November 1945, mentions a number of prominent business people of the time who I do not recall being listed on Gwulo as members of the HK Volunteers, POWs interred during the war, or had died during the conflict.

Gwulo readers who compile such data-bases may be able to fill-in the backgrounds of these names i.e.

Mr W.McCombe,  Mr G.G.N. Tinson,  Mr K.S. Morrison,  John Robinson,  Mr C.E. White & Mr H.R. Pinna

RAF's arrival in Hong Kong-1945

An interesting article starting on page 32 onwards to page 45 of this PDF covering the RAF’s arrival in Hong Kong in 1945

Most of the story has been told in various formats in previously published documents.

One map/diagram shows Ping Shan and Ka Tak far way from where they actually are..
