Tai Pak, Castle Peak, 1972

This is just about the last of the photos I have from HK. This was a stop on a NT tour I went on. There was a small souvenir stand nearby, and I bought an english-language copy of Mao's little red book there. Do I misunderstand, or was there also a "Tai Pak" in Aberdeen harbor also?

This is a two-page ad in my 1972 copy of "The Serviceman's Guide to Hong Kong" that a girl at the San Francisco gave me. This place must have been so well-known that no address was given. After all, the little sign in the window states "Where it's at". Am I the only one who reads the store name a bit differently?

Another place on the tour of the New Territories I took in July 1972.

I've been studying the little map of where my tour went that day, and I can't remember where this might have been. At any rate, a blazing hot day in July 1972.

Another glimpse of the "Bamboo Curtain" (as my little tour flier puts it) from July 1972. I think I took this rather boring tour just for the opportunity of peeking over at Red China. I certainly wasted enough film up there that day.

Various views I took at Lok Ma Chau (according to the tour booklet from "President Tours" I saved all these years due to my packrat tendencies. This was July,1972

I thought this First-Day cover might be of interest here.

I took this in early July,1972, from the Kowloon terminal of the Star Ferry, which you can see to the left. That view has certainly changed radically in the intervening years, hasn't it?
