This 1972 photo showing the [Gin Drinkers Bay] landfill site was still active, and with the TEXACO oil tank farm in full scale development.

The same area had faced drastic changes in the following 15 years.

The large building at the cemetery is the columbarium.

P.S. Probably the same source as this one.

Original Title on Flickr: 由觀塘蜆殼公司火油倉庫延伸的填海區90_1991 (Reclamation area extending from the Oxygen Storagehouse of Kwun Tong Shell Company 90_1991)

Comment on Flickr: Judge from the rate the Laguna City towers were built and also the Kwun Tong Eastern Corridor development, the lower photo might be somewhat later than 1991, but not later than 1993.

Shell writes on its homepage: After Shell’s major buildings were destroyed or damaged, a new installation at Kwun Tong was opened in 1947 with Hong Kong the focus of activities as markets in China were no longer accessible during the Cultural Revolution. [...] The Hong Kong depot was relocated to Tsing Yi Island in 1991 ....

Left hand side is the Standard Oil Co. / Mobil oil berth and tank farm [1904-????], later to become Mei Foo Sun Chuen [1978- ].

Update 2021-05-18: On Flickr, the image is flipped horizontally, this is now the correct orientation.

Before the many crossings that now exist, only one bridge gave access to Tsing Yi Island. This was built as a joint cost project by the government, China Light & Power and other companies with interests on the island.
