47-50 Connaught Road Central [c.1905-c.1975]

Date Place completed:
c.1905-01-01 (Year, Month, Day are approximate)
Date Place demolished:
c.1975-01-01 (Year, Month, Day are approximate)

Four houses built on Marine Lot 18, the address is 47-50 Connaught Road Central. Probably built at the same time as the houses further east on reclaimed land, so 1905 was guessed. These are the first houses west of Jubilee Street.

These four houses were grouped together because they are shorter compared to the other ones further west.

To get an impression about the buildings here is a map together with a photo from around 1930.

On Gwulo we see many photos from the 1950s and 1960s where these building show a “modern” face and are in colour. Didn’t find a photo similar to the one from 1930, so I had to create my own from two photos.

Building at 189 Des Voeux Road Central, was built on the place of 189, Des Voeux Road Central.

It has 31 floors and is mainly an office building. It opened in 1995. It can be seen on the 2014 photo at the extreme left side (with a circle at the front near the top).

The building also has an (unused) entrance at 92-97 Connaught Road.
