Replacements to the tram tracks were on-going, especially on the tight bends.

The showing of 'Dunkirk' should give a fairly accurate date for this photograph.

Following Moddsey's providing the date window, I have changed this one's date to 1958-09-06, as I explain against the Roxy cinema photograph.  Andrew

How strange to me now, that even when off duty and in civilian clothes, we still tended to walk with a military bearing.  When going 'down town', we always got dressed up.  After a night spent at the China Fleet Club (a real bargain at HK$1 each)  Paul Youd, Lew Cox, Al Horton, Al Whitlock, Brian Peacock and I were walking past the Victoria Barracks on our way to the Cheero Club.

Peter took this from the junction of Hennessy Road and Johnston Road, looking to the East.  The sign of the Rialto theatre, that had opened in November 1952, after the China Cinema had closed is visible on the right.  I believe that the triangular(?) building just visible on the extreme left might be the Chinese Methodist church.  (Andrew S)
