This photo is obviously a studio shot, either in Kowloon or Hong Kong about 1898. Seated are William Mitchel Thomson, who worked for the Water Dept, or Public Works with his wife Harriet seated beside him. In the back row were their children left to right Edie, Katie, Willie, and Nellie.

I am pretty sure this is a Hong Kong photo. My mother Iris Maud Hunter is the girl on the far right hand side of the photo. Her sister Nora Eileen is seated in the front row, second from right. They were both born in Kowloon. I don't know where the picture was taken or who the other children are. My family moved to Shanghai about 1919 or 1920 so this shot is borderline but judging by the look of the childrens ages I think it was before the move. My mother Iris was born in 1911 so I'm guessing at the ages in the photo.

This photo was taken in the late 1920s or early 1930s. I am fairly sure it was in Shanghai. The lone woman in the photos is Nora Hunter, and her father Tobias Hunter is also in the photo fifth from left side. Others in the photo may be Alexander Samson, Ernest Samson, Pete Pederson. The photo could also show Thomas Cock. The crates in the background could have been from tea, butter, or some food commodity as Geddes was an importer of butter and dairy products from Australia and elsewhere.

Living in the outside refreshment area outside the Officers Mess at PTS were 2 VIP's - the Mess Mascots, 2 white ducks. Running around loose outside and under your feet, you dare not shout or push them away with your foot because that was an insult to the Officers Mess and God would stick a thunder bolt up your ass, so the 2 of them lived a good protected life. At each new officer intake at PTS.there would be a Dining In Night, the Formal Officers Mess Night with full dress uniform. Black tie, Manners, port, toasts, speaches everything.
