Hong Kong Police Orchestra/band Stanley Camp.

Hello, my grandfather was in the Hong Kong Police before being interned at Stanley Camp with my Grandmother, my Dad and his two brothers when the Japanese invaded Hong Kong.

His name is Harold Woods and I believe his nickname was "Timber" Woods.

He played the clarinet and was in the Hong Kong Police Orchestra or Band and their performances were played on the radio i believe.

Stanley's lost beach-1990s

This beach at Stanley disappeared under the present promenade.

The abandoned small sailing Junk was probably Vietnamese. Presumably used by boat refugees.                           It closely resembled those I saw in Hai Phong harbour and on the Red River Delta in the 1980s.

When this photo was taken Sailing Junks had disappeared from Hong Kong’s waters

Portrait Lily & Johnny Lafleur, ca. 1951

Charles Gesner van der Voort (1916-1991) worked for Holland-China Trading Company in Shanghai, from 1939 to 1943.

Franciscus Hubertus Joseph Alphonsus Lafleur (1890 - 1946) was a colleague at the Hong Kong office and lived in Hong Kong with his wife Lily (1907-1982), son Ah Tong and daughter Ah Kan (Mary). The Japanese interned the family in Stanley Camp, Hong Kong. Unfortunately, Franciscus (probably people called him Frans) died soon after WWII.
