Hong Kong Police Orchestra/band Stanley Camp.

Hello, my grandfather was in the Hong Kong Police before being interned at Stanley Camp with my Grandmother, my Dad and his two brothers when the Japanese invaded Hong Kong.

His name is Harold Woods and I believe his nickname was "Timber" Woods.

He played the clarinet and was in the Hong Kong Police Orchestra or Band and their performances were played on the radio i believe.

World War II Minstrel Shows in HK camps

Does anyone have information about the minstrel shows that were put on by the folks in the Stanley and Sham Shui Po Camps during World War II?

Stanley seems to have held at least two minstrel shows:

Natasha du Breuil and Colonel Valentine Burkhardt

I have recently written all I have been able to find out about two amateur naturalists who were active in Hong Kong from the 1940s until their deaths in the 1960s. Their stories uncovered fascinating accounts of life in China between the wars and then of their life together in Hong Kong. They are Natasha du Breuil (ca 1891-1966) and Colonel Valentine Burkhardt (1884-1967). The latter wrote articles (which were read avidly by my wife when the Sunday Post-Herald arrived) and books on Chinese creeds and customs after his life in military intelligence.
