Power Plant at Ap Lei Chau

This is the electrical power generating plant at Ap Lei Chau, in June of 1974. I see in a later photo, from 1982 that it by then had 5 smokestacks (increased generating capacity, I imagine). I understand that it has since been demolished.

This is a view of the hillside near Tiger Balm Garden, in June,1974, from a set of slides I acquired recently. I can remember looking at these houses clinging to the steep slope back when I was there in 1972, and this photo reminded me of that. I would imagine these places are all long gone now,along with most of TBG.

While the ladies were painting naval ships, the males were on the high wires precariously painting merchant ships in mid-harbour with no safety nets or safety ropes tied to them. Invairably there was no rescue boat or sampan standing by if they fell off either.
