Yuen Long Cinema (元朗戲院) [????- ]

Hi there,

Don't know if it is the second or third incantation of the cinema.  The ground floor had been re-purposed into a Supermarket and the Post Office,   As the building has tiled roof I believe it's got to be a bit old.

GV Hollywood (Diamond Hill) / GV 荷里活 (鑽石山) [1997-2011]

嘉禾GV荷里活, or Golden Harvest GV Hollywood, was the first theatre to operate in Plaza Hollywood which was constructed in 1997.  The theatre started operating in June 1997.  It had six screens having seating capacities ranging from 225 to 348.  About 10 years after opening, the theatre was renovated, and renamed  嘉禾荷里活 (Golden Harvest Hollywood).

Olympian City / 奧海城戲院 [2001-2013]

Address: 18 Hoi Ting Road, Tai Kok Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong.  A shopping complex called Olympian City 2 (second generation).

Olympian City - Broadway Circuit operated during the period December 15, 2001 - Septmber 15, 2013.  Later that year, on December 24, the 嘉禾 the sky (奧運) started operating, and it continous to operate today.  One viewer's comments (source below) recall watching the different movies and saved the ticket stubs for memory sake.  So true, we remember our theatres also by the movies we watched there.

UA Langham Place (Mong Kok) / UA 朗豪坊戲院 [2004-2014]

UA Langham Place operated during the period November 5, 2004 - July 1, 2014.  It was one of the first tenants in the new mall constructed in 2004. As with some theatres that were about to close, it offered free admission on the last day of operation, July 1, no seat reservation, to thank patrons for their support.  The place was later turned into Cinema City Langham which continues to operate today.

Kam Sing~New Port Theatre / 金聲~新寶戲院 [1984-2004]

Address: 60 Soy Street, Mong Kok, Kowloon, Hong Kong.  Southeast corner of Soy Street - Fa Yuen Street intersection.

The first theatre to operate at the site was 金聲戲院 which, for this page, is translated to Kam Sing Theatre.  It opened some time in 1984 until April 16, 2004.  The operating period for this page applies only to this retired theatre.  The sources listed below contain some comments from movie-goers.

Address:  One source gives its location on Nathan Road while another source on Kimberly Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong. The location marker is approximate.

Kowloon Theatre opened to business on June 13, 1921.  It showed its last film on March 1, 1923; and on the same day there was an advertisement in the Hong Kong Telegraph informing that the site is available for club or private dance.

Kornhill Theatre / 康城戲院 [1987-1994]

Kornhill Theatre operated in the Kornhill Plaza which was constructed in 1987.  The plaza's address is 1-2 Kornhill Road, Quarry Bay, Hong Kong.

Kornhill Theatre started operating likely in 1987 when the plaza first opened for business, and closed some time in 1994.  The site was later turned into Kornhill Broadway but the timing is unknown.  Currently, MCL 康怡戲院  (Kornhill) is operating  listing its address as 2 Kornhill Road which is on the south side of Kornhill Road.

Metropole Theatre (North Point) / 都城戲院 [1954-1963]

Address: King's Road, North Point, Hong Kong.  The Wikipedia source states that the site is the current 現新都城大廈 (Metropole Building), so it places the former theatre at 416-430 King's Road, North Point, Hong Kong.

Metropole Theatre operated during the period February 1, 1954 - January 1, 1963.
