The caption on this 1930's photo of my uncle's wife, Cicely Warren at Stanley Beach, reads "Beach pyjamas are IN!"

This is one of two nearly identical shots: one smiling; one unsmiling. I've cropped off the inscription on the top "Stanley Beach 1934". On the back my Warren cousin has written "Our matshed". It looks quite a solid construction for a matshed. The one next to it looks more of a classic matshed. I wonder if you built/ bought your own matshed, or rented one. The group consists of Cicely Warren and her children and another couple. Sorry about the quality of the photo.

Here is another "swimming" photo to comply with David's request. It's one of several of the Warren family taken on Stanley beach in the 1920s and 30s - this time my uncle Leslie Warren and his wife Cicely. I'm baffled as to why they chose such an uncomfortable place to sit for this photo when other photos show plenty of sandy stretches. The road from Windy Gap to Cape d'Aguilar mentioned by gw that was started in 1929 and then restarted in 1933 is visible behind the couple in its second state, as this photo would have been taken around 1933 or 1934.

In response to David's request for swimwear photos here is one of two similar shots of my Warren cousins on Stanley Beach in 1932-33. The first shot carries the inscription "Mother knitted these swimsuits for us. We hated them." This snap is taken slightly further to the right from the first and shows a large building in the background. I wonder what it is.

Here's another shot of Stanley Bay, taken in 1928 or 1929, but with no sign of a road or path on the left spit of land. I assume the object behind the child is some sort of diving raft.

This is apparently a matshed at Stanley Beach. I've read that there were only five. Perhaps this was a matshed belonging to the Taikoo Sugar Refinery, the company for which Albert Dransfield worked. He is sitting left front next to Cicely Warren. His wife, Laura, is behind him next to her daughter, Dorothy. My uncle, Leslie Warren is at the back on the left. The Warren children would be about two and four respectively, dating the picture to 1928 or 1929. Albert seems to have a dachsund on a lead. Everyone seems very well dressed for a day at the beach.
