The inscription on this battered photo proof from my family's collection needs verifying. It reads "Royal Rose, winner of the Foochow Cup."  Hong Kong Race Meeting 1914. I've seen it reproduced in one of Trea Wiltshire's books, but haven't been able to refind it.

The very recognizable figure of Sir Paul Catchick Chater can be seen leading his horse. My recollection is that Chater's horses were usually called "---- Dahlia" and that the "Rose" stable belonged to another prominent owner. The names of horses were usually changed when they changed owners.

Marble Hall Gatekeeper's Lodge [1901- ]

The site of No. 1 Conduit Road is composed of a block of 20-storey government quarters (30-40 years old) and a two-storey pitched-roof building (hereafter, “the building”). Historical records show that the building was built as the Gatekeeper’s Lodge (守衛室) of Marble Hall (雲石堂) which was the private residence of Sir Paul Chater (遮打爵士) (1846-1926), a Calcutta-born Armenian merchant of great wealth.

Chater Bungalow [????-????]

[80sKid, I've copied your Forum post to this Place, so once we know the answer we can fill in the location. Regards, David.]

Reading the Legco accounts about Chatham Road there's a reference to Chater Bungalow being turned into a playground (at least some of it), though the answer given is somewhat unclear. I know Liz Chater mentioned it in a post about Sir Paul Chater, saying some of it was turned into a golf course. Does anyone know the location? There's only three references on google: here's the legco ref:
