Hong Kong Gazette

Hello,

I read, that the Hong Kong Gazette newspaper was printed for the first time on May.1 1841.

Where did they printed this paper? Has this been done in Hong Kong ?

Was there a newspaper printing company already established in Hong Kong so early ?

Thank you very much for your kind answer

Best regards,

Daniel

Where: The title of the photo is "Queen's Road". They don't say if it is the East, West, or Central section, so that's a lot of road to think about. Fortunately, one of Queen's Road's quirks is its twists and turns, which helps identify the different sections.

Looking at the shape of the road in the photo above, and the curve of the curb stones in the bottom right corner, I believe this is a photo of

Is it possible that a stream existed in 1909 from below Mountain Lodge to the Botanical Gardens? I am following up a story and I need to know.

Road Names

Hi,

I came along of a map of Kowloon 1892, which shows the following road names.

Robinson Road which probably is  Nathan Road today.

Des Voeux Road which probably is Chatham Road today.

Mac Donnel Road which probably could be Canton Road today.

Chater Road which i do not know what road this would be today.

Could anybody tell me when these road names have changed to the present name ?

Thank you very much and kind regards,

Daniel

Royal Navy--Hong Kong 1948 to 1958

I am doing research on the Royal Navy in Hong Kong from 1948 to 1958. In particular I interested in the LCA's the MFV's and both the long and short ML's

i am also interested in details of the Chinese Navy that was based on Lin Tin.

Any information, photos, cuttings etc would be really appreciated.

I have been helped tremendously by the Hong Kong Flotilla Association which has given me the basic information but I now want to develop this further

Hong Kong $ directory

Hello!

It's a great place over here thanks to all your efforts.

Anybody might have older copies of HK $ directory yearbook, especially from 1950s to 1970s?

I am researching several local banks and it's staff lists. .. if someone willing to help if you own books or may be interested to collaborate for some fee to get needed pages scanned at HKU library, it will be a great support.

Thanks in advance.

Help to save Pillbox 16 & 17!

Please take a moment to consider signing this petition to save some Hong Kong WWII history.

The link below is to a petition addressed to the LCSD to save Pillbox 16 & 17 near and on Repulse Bay. My reasons for choosing these two pillboxes specifically is because they are in areas where there are a lot of tourists, and are easily accessible for a large number of people, so it makes sense for the LCSD to invest a small amount of money into them to keep them alive as educational pieces for the Hong Kong public.

Mary & John Gale

Hi there,

I'm posting here to ask if anyone knows of the whereabouts of Mary & John Gale whom lived in Stewart Terrace in the early 60s. They had two sons and Mary's maiden name was Lloyd. She hails from Welling in Kent.

Mary was a good friend of my Mum whom is about to turn 80 next month.

She's been trying to find Mary for many years after they lost touch in the mid-60s & it would be wonderful if I could help reunite them..

I have tried the HR department at Jardine Matheson but their records don't go back that far unfortunately.
