A little more about Gingles.
I doubt whether Gingles was ever interned in Stanley. He was, however, interned in the Ma Tau Wai camp in Kowloon towards the end of the Japanese Occupation. There he was Chairman of the Committee and clearly he and Arthur May, another internee, did not see eye to eye as recorded by Arthur; the Arthur May Story - Hong Kong 1941-1945, page 58.
Arthur became Secretary to the Committee but there is some doubt whether he also took over the Chairmanship or whether Gingles remained in post until Liberation.
