Philip was also instrumental in finding a good home for Harold's collection of material after Harold's son and daughter generously decided they'd like to donate it to an archive. The Harold Thomas Matches Collection is now part of the Hong Kong University's Special Collections:

While Matches spent much of his early service in the HKP in the Water Police, he was later transferred to CID and at the time of the Japanese invasion was attached to CID Tsim Sha Tsui.
